Mile Pregnancy Test

The least invasive method of pregnancy confirmation, the Milk Pregnancy Test saves time by eliminating additional animal sorting, restraining and sampling. Using the Milk Pregnancy Test for confirmation creates opportunities to reallocate producer and veterinarian time to benefit other management areas.

About the Test
  • Measures pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAGs), to determine pregnancy status. PAGs are released by the placenta during pregnancy and are specific to pregnancy unlike some other chemical indicators, such as progesterone.
  • Uses ELISA technology, a rapid and trusted diagnostic method.
  • High level of accuracy (98%), comparable to palpation, ultrasound, and blood testing.
  • Effective from 28 days post breeding until dry-off.
  • Most effective in herds with accurate breeding and A.I. records, that are on regular DHI testing.
  • NorthStar DHI Specialists have completed specific training and are certified to provide sample collection for Milk Pregnancy Test.
Test Results
  • Available within 24 hours of samples arriving at DHI lab.
  • Quickly access results online through a personalized database system.
  • Results reported as pregnant, open or recheck based on the level of the PAG’s present.
  • Cows with a “recheck” result should be verified by herd veterinarian or retested.
How to Implement
  • Best suited for pregnancy confirmation after initial status is determined and/or at dry-off pregnancy check.
  • Implement during routine DHI testing.
  • Producer identifies cows for pregnancy confirmation or establishes a routine sampling program with the DHI Specialist. Routine program can identify all cows within a certain window post-breeding to be tested on DHI test day – making pregnancy confirmation nearly automatic.
Cost
  • $4.50 per sample
  • Combination testing for multiple ELISA tests for Johne’s, Leukosis, BVD, Progesterone or Pregnancy. $10 per sample for any two milk-based ELISA tests or $13.50 for any three milk-based ELISA tests.
  • $5 submission fee per order.
  • No supply or shipping charges when conducted on DHI samples.
